Buns Of Steel Sex Appeal Essay Example For Students

Buns Of Steel Sex Appeal Essay John Darcey 1 Professor GarberHm 46March 5thBuns of Steel and Sex AppealIt appears in the previous decade increasingly more consideration has been put on firm hindquarters and thighs on ladies. Susan J.Douglas composed an article called ? Flex Appeal, Buns of Steel, and the Body in Question?. It tends to this craze in a womans perspective. Douglas, who was an educator and independent author has had a significant number of her article show up in The Village Voice. It appears from the tone of this article Douglas is appalled by the accentuation put on the female body and has likely had battles with weight herself, the same number of ladies nowadays have had. Douglas brings up in her article the entirety of the exposure that has been put on womens rump. It appears wherever you go you can get a brief look at a womans tight backside or firm thighs. On bulletins, magazine covers, articles, TV, pretty much anyplace you can put a butt you will see one. Douglas says ? ?not simply in Vogue or Cosmo, either: even in the Village Voice,? has advertisements for items, for example, the tape called Buns of Steel.? (Douglas 181) There is likewise a hugeness of activity recordings making claims like ? Presently you can have the Buns you constantly needed?. The creator additionally calls attention to two advertisements that Darcey 2show ideal bottoms with mottos like ? Youve buckled down? what's more, ?If you work it appears?. (Douglas 182) Douglas appears to be affronted by this countering ?which means on the off chance that you have been relaxing, that will show as well?. (Douglas 182) I for one imagine that in the event that it were really that simple, we would all have ?buns of steel?. Douglas raises something that a large portion of us have never thought of. She assumes that normal lady to have tight behinds is attempting to make them progressively like men. She asserts this is a ?twisting of women's liberation? (Douglas 182) She at that point goes onto state ? ?that aspiring ladies need, or should need, to be much the same as men, particularly those men focused on the most serious, obtuse, macho parts of man controlled society. I dont truly observe the association, being that I am certain lady like firm buns on men as well. It appears that Douglas is embarrassed about her own body as should be obvious in the announcement ?They demand that all of us should feel just a single thing when we put on a swimsuit: significant humiliation.? (Douglas 181) I dont believe that any ladies should feel embarrassed about her body in a swimsuit or whatever else so far as that is concerned. Douglas clarifies how ladies normally have more fat than men do, so as to convey babies. Th is is another explanation she went to the hypothesis of the open needing ladies to be increasingly similar to men. She additionally offer a mocking expression ?A genuine ladies, of any Darcey 3age, will get off her butt and, by defeating her sloth, get fit as a fiddle, however overcome hereditary qualities and history.? (Douglas 182)According to the article this butt cheek and thigh rage began in the eighties. It appears, as indicated by Douglas, that the prominence of thighs and rear end much abrogated the ubiquity of bosom. The explanation, she clarifies, it that even level chested ladies can have an objective of ?buns of steel?.I feel that piece of this is sexual arranged issues where getting progressively open on TV in advertisements. It was most likely the main decade that it was satisfactory to glaringly show womens backsides. At the point when the entirety of the normal ladies saw this, and how the media associated it to sexuality and richness it turned into a furor. Notwiths tanding that men came to feel that is what's in store from a ladies, and in this manner put more focus on their own lady friends and spouses to resemble the models. Douglas says ?The way to tremendous benefits was to underscore excellence over wellbeing, sexuality over wellness, and to compare slim thighs with riches and status?. (Douglas 182) Douglas says this is Reaganism, which implies that appearances are similarly as significant as character. .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b , .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b .postImageUrl , .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b .focused content zone { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b , .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b:hover , .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b:visited , .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b:active { border:0!important; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; mistiness: 1; change: obscurity 250ms; webkit-change: haziness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b:active , .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b:hover { darkness: 1; progress: murkiness 250ms; webkit-progress: murkiness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relative; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content beautification: underline; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; outskirt span: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: striking; line-tallness: 26px; moz-outskirt sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content enhancement: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: outright; right: 0; top: 0; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u76e4c0741b0e8aceda4838516eecd32b:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Loewen Group Case Study EssayAnother debate of this theme is that every one of these promotions show a decent figure as an indication of order. The creator appears to be angry with this, since ladies with work area occupations that Darcey 4work harder than the person who happen to have the opportunity that work out constantly, are viewed as sluggish on account of there appearance. The creator likewise appears to differ with the word cellulite, saying that a ladies who has it will be ?excused as lazy and lacking good fiber? (Douglas 182) Who question is by all accounts, what does a tight butt say about the ladies and her character. She accepts, and I will in general concur, nothing by any means. She states in her article ?Females buns of steel mark a lady as an alluring bit of ass, yet somebody who can really kick ass when fundamental?. (Douglas 183) In this announcement she in intimated that a solid however doesnt really add to physical quality. The real purpose of Douglas article is by all accounts that so much accentuation ought not be put on close buns, and more on the achievements of the ladies. By and by, I have known numerous young ladies that were so overcome with their weight and the size of their butt it turned into a fixation. I ponder the media and the impact, however I additionally feel she is perusing to much into the issue. Physical allure whether it is bottom, bosom, thighs or legs will consistently be around for men or for ladies. I think the overall population simply needs to recollect that the ladies you see on TV are one out of many and it can not be normal for every one of them to resemble that. Sight and Blindness in Oedipus the King Essay - 1048 Words

The Irony of Sight and Knowledge in Oedipus the King People equate ‘seeing’ to gaining knowledge. Expressions such as â€Å"I see† and â€Å"seeing truth† are used to express understanding of something, but is seeing really the same as knowing? In Oedipus the King, Oedipus’s inability to grasp the truth is despite the fact that he is physically able to see contrasts Teiresias’s knowledge of the truth even though he is blind. The irony of the blind man being knowledgeable, and the seer becoming blind to the truth suggests that the idea that knowledge is not related to physical sight. In the beginning of the play, Oedipus is able to see but does not know the truth about who killed Laius. At the conclusion of the play, Oedipus is†¦show more content†¦You can’t hurt me or anyone else who sees the light-you can never touch me.† (10) Here Oedipus is suggesting that Teiresias is inferior to anyone who can see, including himself, and is not a threat to them. Oedipus is wrong because the fact that Oedipus has the advantage of sight over Teiresias is not comparable to the knowledge that Teiresias has. This is yet another example of dramatic irony. It may seem that Oedipus has the advantage over Teiresias because Teiresias is blind, but the knowledge of who Oedipus really is is far more important. A lot of the irony of Oedipus’ blindness also occurs at the end of the play, when Oedipus makes himself physically blind. â€Å"†¦, he digs them down the sockets of his eyes, crying, You, youll see no more the pain I suffered, all the pain I caused! Too long you looked on the ones you never should have seen, blind to the ones you longed to see, to know! Blind from this hour on! Blind in the darkness-blind! (46) At this point, Oedipus is confirming a line said early by Teiresius that â€Å"to see the truth when the truth is only pain to him who sees!† (6). Oedipus is now in exactly the same position that Teiresius was when he mocked him, physically blind but seeing the truth. From what I understand, the young mother initially hasa rough life, and can barely keep track of herself and her daugher, Emily. Because the mother must work to support them, she always put Emily into otherpeoples care, and even had to send her away for several different periods. This caused the distance between the mother and Emily to become greater, even tothe point that Emily does not like physical affection such as hugs from hermother. The mother loves her daughter greatly, but she does not have the meansof providing for her child as she would like to. As there are other children andhusbands added to the family, Emily seems to move farther from them all. As Emily grows older, the mother is regretful of the way Emily has grown up. The mother says, We were poor and could not afford for her the soil of easygrowth (pg 29). The mother criticizes and blames herself for this, causingtension in their already stressful relationship. The mother is obviouslysuffering from guilt and wretched memories of Emily suffering. Emily, too, issuffering. We see her stiffness towards all that care for her, her quietness inher daily duities, and her feelings of worthlessness towards herself. She feelsthat she is extremely ugly and stupid, and constantly compares herself to heradorable younger sister, Susan, who has the perfect Shirley Temple image. This is why, in the beginning of the story, someone who cares about Emily, isasking her mother how he/she can help Emily. And, as the mother stands thereironing, she contemplates her daughter and the troubles that they have. Theconstant motion of the ironing is like a sedative to the mother, as it calms hergreatly. Because ironing is such a monotonous job, the mother has time to thinkher disturbing thoughts. Thus, the theme of coming to terms with and overcomingthe past hardships emerges. Personally, I have a hard time relating to the whole story. I can understand, but I cant really internalize them. I suppose that it just is an example of abasic dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship. The story does a good job ofshowing a mothers anguish over her daughter, and a depressed teenager who isstruggling to overcome her unhappy childhood. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Sustainable Measure in Forest Development in Nigeria Sustainability is a term that has gained much popularity in recent clip. It means that a resource is used in such a manner that it continues to be available. It is a general consensus that we must larn how to prolong our environmental resources including forest so that they continue to supply benefits for the people and other populating things on our planet. One cardinal premiss for sustainable development is the acknowledgment that environment and development are non sole of one another but are complementary and inter-dependent and in the long tally adult male reciprocally reenforcing ( Ahmad and Sanny 1987 ) . This complexness explains the trouble in operational zing the construct of sustainable Development. Yet there has been of all time increasing demand on the limited wood resources and the transporting capably of the delicate wood ecosystem. Under the conditions of poorness for which Nigeria is known. the environment frequently exhibits the depredations of long old ages of misd irection as illustrated by high rate of deforestation. overgrazing. desertification and jeopardizing the forest species. In advanced states. most woods are managed but in developing states like Nigeria. comparatively few woods are officially managed. Much lumber production in Nigeria still comes from natural wood. The organized wood direction is the Teak ( tectona grandis ) plantations in the South West which have been bastardized by the military decision makers of these provinces in the 90s. Their impact favoured deforestation. This has generated public force per unit area to pull off woods. With this force per unit area and with much lumber production. woods are now in demand for other goods and services in fact. the goods of forest direction are broadening. The accent is non merely on timber output but besides on broader sustainable wood direction. This covers the spectrum of forest aim. from preservation to production and in-fact involves multiple aims. These include ; harvest of lumber. fruits. Fungi. medicative workss. and animate beings ; dirt and H2O preservation. biodiversity preservation diversion ; and landscape agreeableness ( H2O autumn ) . In add-on. sustainable forest direction entails equilibrating today’s demands with those of future coevalss. This implies a greater function of Foresters in broader land-use decision-making every bit good as more engagement of non-forestry involvement groups in puting the aims of forest direction. Forest direction comprises activities to function the long-run protection of the environmental â€Å"services† of a wood notably its biological diverseness. dirt preservation. watershed ordinance. and climatic ordinance. It besides encompasses the biological footing for forest production. However. the accent is on the production of wood merchandises ( notably lumber ) . Such production normally emphasizes sustained output – a regular and go oning flow of production that the peculiar wood can prolong without damage of its productiveness. Approximately 50 % of woods are in protected countries where no green goods is removed as national Parkss. It is of import to observe that traditional forest direction systems in many forest countries have sustained the outputs of many merchandises over centuries. such as myths ( â€Å"Igbo Oro† ) . Many of these countries are now under economic force per unit area and deforestation is increasing. Therefore it is necessary to follow activities such as planning and monitoring ; site quality appraisal ; forest stocks and growing measuring ; forest program ; readying ; route and substructure proviso ; dirt and H2O direction to fix and better the site ; silviculture ( the care of forest ) to change stock features ( be givening. thinning out. droping renewing. or seting trees. and fertilisation ; to ensue in base of coveted species. age and size composing ) ; reaping operations ; give control steps to maintain end product at sustained degrees ; and protection from plagues. diseases . mulct and utmost climatic events. Fire. which was one time regarded. as a destroyer of wood. but now is recognized as a direction tool when carefully employed. Some of import lumber trees really require fire for successful regeneration insects ; such as moth. titivate budworm. sawfly and diseases take a heavy toll. However. biological control steps and some aerial crop-dusting. proper cutting circles and cut disposal are progressively effectual. Proper Harvesting methods range from remotion of all trees. ( clear cutting ) to remotion of selected mature trees ( Selection cutting ) . and proviso for reproduction. either of course from seed trees or unnaturally by seting. The rate and frequence of any film editing should take for sustained production over an indefinite period. Use of all tree harvested: Technological progresss. such as atom board and gluing. have created utilizations for subdivisions. faulty logs. trees excessively little to be milled into boards. and so called inferior trees. Chapter THREE3. 0RESULT AND DISCUSSIONSustainable Measure IN MINERALS DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIAMinerals add to our safety. wellness and wellbeing. Iron. Cu. coal. crude oil and other minerals have a 1000 and one utilizations. The loss of even one of these minerals would impact our life well. Careful excavation helps us to conserve coal. Fe and oil-deposits. It seems difficult to believe that one twenty-four hours we would hold to populate without coal or oil. Yet. there are opportunities that oil and coal will acquire dog-tired if we continue utilizing them at the rate we do today. We should take the undermentioned stairss to conserve non-renewable resources. 3. 10Prohibiting wastage of resources: Wastage of resources should be discouraged. For illustration. utilizing public conveyance in topographic point of single vehicles helps to conserve valuable gasoline. Use of ‘car-pool’ system where several people with a common finish travel together in one vehicle. saves petrol. Switch overing off fans. visible radiations and ice chests when non in usage. utilizing cooking gas economically. usage of force per unit area cookers. utilizing tube visible radiations in topographic point of electric bulb are some ways of conserving non-renewable resources which could assist in a large manner. 3. 11Use of replacements: Alternate beginnings of energy like solar energy. weave energy. tidal energy. energy from biomas ( biogas ) . etc. . can be used on a big graduated table to replace the fossil fuels. Use of solar cookers and biogas for cooking must be encouraged. New stuffs are being developed to replace non-renewable resources. For illustration. plastics are now used to do merchandises that one time could be made merely out of steel. The usage of atomic energy can decrease our dependance on coal and oil. 3. 12Recycling resources: All types of metal wastes. glass and paper and plastic can be recycled and used once more. The local kabadiwala collects all the debris and carap which is recycled and used once more to do paper. fictile containers and metal articles. Although plastic is non a natural resource itself ( it is semisynthetic ) but uses up batch of fuel in its fabrication procedure. Hence. recycling plastic helps to conserve fuels. Essay about Prince Sports Case Analysis

Essay about Prince Sports Case Analysis Essay about Prince Sports Case Analysis Ashley Blyth Prince Sports Case Analysis Marketing Principles Prince Sports is a sports equipment retailer that offers many different products for tennis, squash, badminton, and racquetball, and paddle tennis. It’s complete line of tennis products include more than 150 racquet models, more than 50 tennis strings, over 50 footwear models, and countless types of bags, apparel, and other accessories. Inventing the first oversize, long-body racquets, the first synthetic gut tennis string, and the first natural foot shape tennis shoe is something that Prince prides itself on in the history of innovation in tennis. In the 21st century environmental forces worked for and against Prince in many different ways. Social forces work for Prince due to people being health conscious which results in people participating in physical activities, such as tennis. Income and occupation plays a role here because tennis is known as a â€Å"rich† people sport. Technological forces help prince in a few different ways. Increase of technology will make it easier to research and produce many different products. Having availability to not only research different ideas for new products but to actually be able to produce them depending on what the consumers’ needs are will be much easier as technology advances. Also technology provided more outlets for marketing. This can work against Prince as well. Having an available online market gives opportunity for consumers to leave feedback and reviews. One way this could work against Prince is if there are any dis-satisfied customers they are able to leave rev iews and feedback for possible new consumers to see, resulting in the loss of business. Many new consumers do review searches before purchasing a product or service on the web. Economic forces are based on the economy. If the economy is good it will work in favor for Prince. If consumers feel comfortable in the purchase of a new product that will only result in more purchases, and more word of mouth marketing. However, if the economy is bad this will make it less likely for consumers to purchase any tennis equipment. They will probably make do with what they currently have. The growth of tennis related products depends heavily on the growth of the tennis industry as a whole. There are different marketing activities that the United States can do to promote tennis playing. Every consumer loves to see the word free. Giving away free tennis lessons will spark the interest of a consumer. Once a person plays tennis for the first time there is a greater chance they will return to play again. There is also the idea to use internet based websites to sell the sport at a discounted rate. An example of an internet based site that sells goods and services at a discounted rate is Groupon. Here Prince could offer either free or promotional prices for lessons, day trips, games, or group packages. When people use discounted tennis games word of mouth will eventually spread and more people will talk about tennis resulting in more people joining the sport. Media advertising is a great way to target a specific market. Running an advertisement of all the pros of playing ten nis such as a great form of exercise, to achieve and maintain good health. If targeting people who are attracted to good health and maintaining it an idea would be to run an advertisement in a health magazine, this would target a specific consumer. There are many different promotional activates that Prince can use to reach recreational players and junior players as well. Sale promotions such as free lessons with the purchase of a product are ideas for promotions. Offering free lesson services to get consumers interested is a great idea. Since recreational players may be playing tennis for the simple fact of good exercise. Because of this they might be found in gyms, or spas. Hanging advertisements in these locations would be used a luring tool for a target group. Junior players can be attracted through

Word Order in Spanish

Word Order in Spanish The subject of word order in Spanish can be quite complex, so this lesson should be considered merely an introduction. As you study Spanish, you will encounter a wide variety of ways of ordering words in a sentence, many of them ways that are impossible or awkward in English. In general, Spanish is more flexible with its word order than English is. In both languages, a typical statement consists of a noun followed by a verb followed by an object (if the verb has an object). In English, variations from that norm are used mostly for literary effect. But in Spanish, changes in the word order can be heard in everyday conversation or seen frequently in everyday writing such as that found in newspapers and magazines. Typical Word Orders The chart below shows examples of some common ways of ordering words. Note that in many sentences the subject can be omitted if it can be understood from the context. As a beginning student, you dont need to memorize these word-order possibilities, but you should be familiar with these common schemes so you dont trip over them when you come across them. Type Order Example Comment Statement Subject, verb Roberto estudia. (Roberto is studying.) This word order is extremely common and can be considered the norm. Statement Subject, verb, object Roberto compr el libro. (Roberto bought the book.) This word order is extremely common and can be considered the norm. Statement Subject, object pronoun, verb Roberto lo compr. (Roberto bought it.) This word order is extremely common and can be considered the norm. Object pronouns precede conjugated verbs; they can be attached at the end of infinitives and present participles. Question Question word, verb, subject Dnde est el libro? (Where is the book?) This word order is extremely common and can be considered the norm. Exclamation Exclamatory word, adjective, verb, subject Qu linda es Roberta! (How beautiful Roberta is!) This word order is extremely common and can be considered the norm. Many exclamations omit one or more of these sentence parts. Statement Verb, noun Sufren los nios. (The children are suffering.) Placing the verb ahead of the noun can have the effect of placing more emphasis on the verb. In the sample sentence, the emphasis is more on the suffering than who is suffering. Statement Object, verb, noun El libro lo escribi Juan. (John wrote the book.) Placing the object at the beginning of the sentence can have the effect of placing more emphasis on the object. In the sample sentence, the emphasis is on what was written, not who wrote it. The pronoun lo, although redundant, is customary in this sentence construction. Statement Adverb, verb, noun Siempre hablan los nios. (The children are always talking.) In general, Spanish adverbs are kept close to the verbs they modify. If an adverb starts a sentence, the verb frequently follows. Phrase Noun, adjective la casa azul y cara (the expensive blue house) Descriptive adjectives, especially ones that describe something objectively, usually are placed after the nouns they modify. Phrase Adjective, noun Otras casas (other houses); mi querida amiga (my dear friend) Adjectives of number and other nondescriptive adjectives usually precede the noun. Often, so do adjectives being used to describe something subjectively, such as to impart an emotional quality to it. Phrase Preposition, noun en la caja (in the box) Note that Spanish sentences can never end in a preposition, as is commonly done in English. Command Verb, subject pronoun Estudia t. (Study.) Pronouns are often unnecessary in commands; when used, they nearly always immediately follow the verb. Sample Sentences Demonstrating Spanish Word Order The sentences below  are examples of Spanish as it is most commonly ordered: La atencià ³n a los recià ©n llegados es un reto para las Fuerzas de Seguridad. (Attention to the recently arrived is a challenge for the Security Forces. Here the word order is almost to what you would find in English.) Diagnostican por error una gripe a una joven y terminan amputndole la pierna. (They diagnosed the flu by mistake in a boy and ended up amputating his leg. Here the phrase por error, meaning by mistake, is kept closer to the verb, diagnostican, than it would be in English.) Un coche blanco ser ms fresco en verano. (A white car will be cooler in summer. The adjective blanco, meaning white, comes after the word for car, coche, not before.)  ¿Dà ³nde estn las oportunidades? (Where are the opportunities? In simple questions, English and Spanish word order can be identical.) Es importante que me diga con quià ©n saliste. (It is important that you tell me who you left with. The pronoun object me, me in English, comes before diga, you left,  the reverse of English. And while the English sentence ends with the preposition with, in Spanish con must come before the word here for who, quià ©n.) Key Takeaways Although word order in Spanish is often similar to that of English, Spanish can be more flexible.Among the key differences are  that descriptive adjectives usually follow nouns, and Spanish sentences cannot end in a preposition.Spanish adverbs usually are placed next to or very close to the words they modify.

Discuss and critically assess the assertion that the role of marketing Essay

Discuss and critically assess the assertion that the role of marketing - Essay Example The essay will go on to compare whether marketing has a more functional rather than strategic role in the era of modern marketing and how this is reflected in modern marketing strategies in the modern corporate world. The Marketing concept entails the philosophy that firms should be able to analyse consumer needs and then make any decisions to satisfy those needs (Nakata.C.2002). The concept is fairly new and only found its way into modern business philosophy after the Second World War. (Nakata.C.2002). However even in the 18th century economists like Adam Smith in his book the wealth of nations 1776 were of view that needs of the producers should only be viewed in sync with the needs of the consumers (Nakata.C.2002). There has been much academic consensus that the role of marketing is often viewed from too narrow a perspective. (Anttila 2002, Anderson 1982).This assertion then begs the question as to what is the comprehensive perspective of the marketing concept. Thus it would seem that the wider role of marketing synthesizes a variety of particular skills and practices learned as well as resources created "translating the philosophy into specific business strategies in order to achieve competitive advantages and superior performance".Antilla 2002). Strategic planning, is how an organisation defines its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy, including its capital and people. (Schultz 1994).The concept of marketing on the other hand has come a long way. As long back as 1910 there was "a period of conceptualization" for marketing and it was celebrated as "matter in motion". (Robert 1976) During the following decades the concept of marketing then integrated and developed and it was given agreed that the functional institutional commodity analysis of marketing was unsatisfactory and a definition of marketing evolved (Robert 1976). Marketing as a necessity for all stages of production Selling gets differentiated from marketing by the fact that selling is only done when a product is made available on the shelf within a retail outlet while marketing starts right at the beginning as early as the idea is conceived or being developed (Orpen, 1985).This contention above alone would demonstrate how marketing has penetrated the earlier stages of production and how it has become indispensable for making the strategies succeed. (Anderson 1982)All this however also entails that the narrow, specialist approach to marketing would weaken the strategic planning itself.(Anderson 1982,Shiner 1998) Marketing as an integral and strategic part of the general management orientation In the understanding of the role of marketing vis a vis strategic planning a much seasoned approach would be to assess the relationship between the two before passing a judgment on the role of modern marketing. As I have mentioned before strategic planning concerns the "direction of business"(Robert 1976) as regarding its production, output finance and operations. Where does marketing fit in then Marketing will fill in the gap and solidify the strategic

Institutionalized Discrimination toward Mexicans in America from Essay

Institutionalized Discrimination toward Mexicans in America from 1900-1950 - Essay Example Mexican Americans have been present in the Americas long before that fateful day on the 4th of July when history took a turn like no other. However, as the 20th century drew closer, the implications of the Mexican American War began to come forth in the form of prejudice against racial hatred against the Mexican Americans who chose to enter America and those who were residing the part of Mexico that fell within US borders at the end of the Mexican American War. The influx of Mexican immigrants into America continued to increase over time and there came a point at the beginning of the 20th century where it became clear that Mexican Americans desired to become a fully functioning part of American society. However, the difference between the two societies did not allow Mexican Americans to settle in America with ease. The Anglo Americans refused to accept the Mexican Americans and the racial hatred and prejudice that had been lying low for the last few decades began to become evident in the treatment to which Anglo Americans subjected the Mexican Americans. After World War II, Mexican Americans began to take an active stance against racism and prejudice on the grounds of ethnicity. This was because they began to worry about the well-being of their future generations and desired them to have significantly better lives (Divide, 2008). The Mexican American parents did not want their children to go through the same difficulties that they had gone through in coal mines and assembly plants. In order to build a better future for their children, Mexican Americans began to make use the justice system to acquire the rights that they had been refused in the past (Terriquez, 2010). An example of institutionalized discrimination against Mexican Americans can be found in the fact that the California school districts made it mandatory

Fossil Discoveries in Kansas :: Exploratory Essays Research Papers

Fossil Discoveries in Kansas Did you know, in the state of Oklahoma it is against the law to either hunt or catch whales? Sounds sort of ridiculous when you think logically about it, but according to paleontologists it isn’t that far fetched. Over 65 million years ago Kansas, including the whole Midwest Region of North America from the Arctic Circle to the Gulf of Mexico, was covered by the Sea. Due to the continental uplifts of the mountain ranges in North America during the Pangaea stage, the once shallow sea of Kansas became shut off from the sea-water flow and dried out to what we know it as today. The biome of Kansas over the last 65 million years has become extremely dry and flat, which would account for a once shallow inland sea. For example; Salt Lake City was once in the mist of a glacier that filled the inside â€Å"hole† of the City, causing the surface of it to be extremely flat excluding the surrounding mountains. Recently in an article from Elasmo.com, recognition for Mike Everhart’s discoveries has been noticed. Paleontologists and Archeologists in Western Kansas â€Å"have been finding sources of some of the best Cretaceous marine fossils that have ever been found anywhere in the world.† (Everhart, #1). These fossils, though interesting and vast, have pointed a lot of questions to how and when Kansas was under sea level. From my research, I have found that the only explanations to these issues and debates are the discoveries found consisting of both the archaic sharks and plesiosaurs. In my research, the Oceans of Kansas organization for Paleontology has given me more than enough to focus on when depicting out how to correlate our modern logic about how Kansas is mostly a wasteland to when it used to be an ocean with striving life within. The sharks that have been recently discovered are increasing not only in size, but by type. Mike Everhart, lead Paleontologist of this organization, in April 2002 discovered an extremely large shark called the Cretoxyrhina Mantelli "Ginsu Shark". â€Å"A large lamniform shark found worldwide from Turonian into Campanian time during the Late Cretaceous.   Much the same size as a modern Great White (but not closely related), the Ginsu shark reached lengths of more than 6 meters before becoming extinct about 82 million years ago.

Matter and its Properties Essay

The fundamental building blocks of matter are atoms and molecules. These make up elements and compounds. An atom is the smallest unit of an element that maintains the properties of that element. And element is a pure substance made of only one kind of atom. A compound is the substance that is made from the atoms of two or more elements that are chemically bonded. Water is an example of a compound because it is one of many compounds that consist of molecules. The hydrogen and oxygen molecules are chemically bonded to form a water molecule. Properties and Changes in Matter Every substance, whether an element or compound, has characteristic properties. Chemists use these properties to distinguish different substances and then use their knowledge of characteristics to separate them. A property may be a characteristic that defines an entire group of substances. That property can be used to classify an unknown substance within that group. For example, are large groups of elements is metals. The property that sets than apart from anything else is that they conduct electricity well. Therefore, if scientists find an unknown element, and test it for electricity conduction, and it turns out to conduct electricity well, it is, in fact, a metal. Properties also define subgroups or substances. And can also help to reveal the identity of an unknown substance. However, identification usually cannot be made based on only one property. Comparisons of several properties can be used to determine the identity of an unknown. Properties are either intensive or extensive. An extensive property depends on the amount of matter that is present. These properties include volume, mass, and the amount of energy in a said substance. Intensive properties, however, do not depend on the amount of matter present. These properties include the melting  point, boiling point, density, and ability to conduct electricity and heat. Regardless of how much of a substance is present, these properties will always be the same. Chemical and Physical Properties and Changes Physical Properties and Physical Changes A physical property is a characteristic that can be measured or observed without changing the identity of the substance. Physical properties describe the substance itself. Examples of these properties are properties such as melting point and boiling point. A change in a substance that does not involve a change in the identity of the substance is called a physical change. Examples of physical changes include grinding, gutting, melting, and boiling a substance or material. These changes do not change the physical identity of a property. For example: If you rip a paper in half, does that change the identity of the two torn parts? The answer is no, it is still a paper, just smaller and ripped. If you bend a paper clip, is it still a paper clip? Yes. Melting point and boiling point are part of an important classification of physical changes called change of state. A change of state is a physical change of a substance from on state to another. The three common states of matter are solid, liquid, and gas. Matter in the solid shape has a definite volume and definite shape. Matter in the liquid state has a definite value, but not a definite shape-a liquid can be molded or formed into many different shapes. Matter in the gas state has neither definite volume nor definite shape. Chemical Properties and Chemical Changes Physical properties can be observed without changing the identity of the substance, but chemical properties cannot. A chemical property relates to a substance’s ability to undergo changes that transform it into different  substances. Chemical properties are easiest to see when substances react to form (a) new substance(s). For example, when charcoal burns, it combines with oxygen in air to become a new substance, carbon dioxide gas. After this chemical change, the original substances of the charcoal, carbon and oxygen, are no longer present. Another example is the ability of iron to rust by combining with oxygen in the air (moisture). A change in which one or more substances are converted into different substances is called a chemical change or reaction. The substances that react in a chemical change are called the reactants. The substances formed by the chemical change are called the products. By burning charcoal, carbon and oxygen are the reactants in a combustion, or burning reaction. Carbon dioxide is the product. Chemical changes and reactions, such as combustion and decomposition, form products whose properties differ greatly from those of the reactants. Chemical changes, however, do not affect the total amount of matter present before and after a reaction. The amount of matter, and total mass, remain the same.

Sociological Views of Poverty - 2768 Words

Sociological Views of Poverty Michelle Williams-Thomas Sociology 101 Professor Yelena Gidenko February 12, 2012 At the beginning of the twentieth century, the most common reasons people died were accidents or communicable diseases like pneumonia. Today, millions die each day from poverty. How can poverty be defined? And what is the difference between absolute and relative poverty? In the paper I will address these issues along with sociological views of poverty. Poverty is a social issue that affects the world. Poverty causes many to be malnourished and die at a young age, it is a cause of deviant behavior such as crime, and also causes the poor to be marginalized from society and have little voice in public†¦show more content†¦Usually these rates are higher among men because they are considered the â€Å"bread winner† of the family. Consider how standards of living have changed over the centuries. The average lifespan of Europeans who survived childhood 1,000 years ago was less than 35 years. In 1900, the average American could expect to live only 49 years, but people in many developed economies now typically live well into their 70s because of advances in nutrition and medicine. Polio, cholera, smallpox, diphtheria, and leprosy are now extinct or quite rare in developed economies. In the U.S. children raised in poverty tend to miss school more often because of illness. These children also have a much higher rate of accidents than do other children, and they are twice as likely to have impaired vision and hearing, iron deficiency anemia, and higher than normal levels of lead in the blood, which can impair brain function. When it comes to society many poor people are labeled or stigmatized. Most blame the poor for their pitiful state claiming that if they want to work they could. And government officials want to cut back on Medicaid, Medicare, and health care. Most of the elite or well off do not want to use their tax dollars to help the poor. The Core Building Blocks Of An Internet Of Things

A Preliminary Literature Survey Eliasson et al., (2015) states that ‘Small embedded systems equipped with a combination of sensors and/or actuators, as well as with networking capabilities, are the core building blocks of an Internet of Things’. The major challenge in IoT is interoperability. Interoperability can be achieved by the use of many protocols some of which are proprietary while the others are open standards. All these protocols are focused to result in one and only IoT protocol. But Semle (Semle) believes that this will never be the case and that these protocols would co-exist each with their own advantages and disadvantages. The challenges for IIoT get more complex while correlating the requirements of Industrial Internet†¦show more content†¦This is because there are numerous open source tools that use HTTP, and every coding language has HTTP libraries. With the introduction of information technology with industrial systems, protection against cyber attacks has become a major factor considered for the design of IIoT systems at different levels. For an industrial production system, the main objective is availability, which means any unnecessary delay due to cyber attacks or system failure would result in loss of huge revenue. This particularly consists of protection against denial-of-service attacks (Sadeghi et al., 2015). Case studies Similar application

The Stem Cell Debate is Not About Medical Benefits Essays

In the final analysis, the debate about embryonic stem cell research is not primarily about medical benefits. In his great novel The Brothers Karamazov, Dostoevsky raised the question whether it would be right to build a world without human suffering if it was essential and inevitable to torture to death one tiny creature such as an innocent child to achieve that end. Each of us must answer that ultimate question in the depths of his or her own conscience. The claim that destructive embryo research will achieve such a utopian end is, we believe, a hollow promise. In the meantime, however, the killing will be quite real. We hope that you will consider these reflections and agree that our government should not support research†¦show more content†¦The embryos to be destroyed by researchers in this campaign are at the same stage of development as embryos in the womb who have been protected as human subjects in federally funded research since 1975.(4) President Clintons National Bioethics Advisory Commission (NBAC) and its 1994 predecessor, the NIH Human Embryo Research Panel, conceded that the early human embryo is a form of developing human life that deserves our respect(5). Treating human life as mere research material is no way to show respect. Finally, this proposal is unnecessary because adult stem cells and other alternatives are already achieving some of the goals for which embryonic stem cells have been proposed, and new clinical uses are constantly being discovered.(6) In our view, human life deserves full respect and protection at every stage and in every condition. Mathematics Free Essays

Math has been developed to aid human understanding .More the math associated with a subject, better is our quantitative understanding of the subject. Calculus is a great tool in this regard. We will write a custom essay sample on Mathematics or any similar topic only for you Order Now If we look at individual tools of mathematics they may fail to be useful. But when different branches of mathematics are used together they will definitely help in all subjects. One more thing â€Å"If we don’t use a tool doesn’t mean that it’s useless, There are many things that can be done with it but we don’t require it in everyday life so we just don’t use them.† Specifically looking at examples :-   1) Minister  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   : one of his main job is campaigning. He should campaign more in areas where he has chances of winning than in areas where he is sure to win. This can be found out by survey of last elections, general notion prevailing among people that time. He must also campaign in areas where there’s high probability of people turning up for his lecture and for voting. When he becomes minister, he has to look for the development of the region. This involves all branches of mathematics. His long term aims, promises etc. Fore most is to manage the funds available. Suppose he decides to construct a bridge or flyover or any such Infrastructure project, he has to think of funds for construction. If he keeps some toll tax than how much should he keep? This can be decided by how many people would use it everyday? How much he is targeting to collect? Inflation etc.etc. This all are determined using calculus. 2) Kindergarten teacher : She has to look on child’s growth. Some child can catch things fast. It’s not needed to spend a lot of time on them. Teachers should concentrate more on average child. Also it is sure that not everyone will understand all the things. So teacher has to do some calculations as to when be the right time to move to next topic. If she plots a graph of ‘how many people have understood versus time.’ Definitely she would get a Gaussian curve. This will come handy for subsequent classes. She can ask some simple question to all students and carry out this survey. Also, marks scored by students will have a Gaussian curve shape. Now suppose she has to convert it some other grading standards. (Example from a scale of 100 to relative grading of scale of 10).It would be good for her to know of calculus. She can figure out How much area (integration) is covered by the above mentioned graph?   How much percentage of people are present in which area? What is the average grade she wants to keep etc. etc. These are some of things which directly come to my mind. Tell students to think more in this line and they will surely find out more uses. Or better still put some enthusiastic calculus teacher in the above post for a day and He/she will think of a 100 more uses. Someone may argue that they are specific cases but remind them that jobs not only require to be proficient in everyday work but of special cases also which are likely to be encountered. How to cite Mathematics, Essay examples Mathematics Free Essays If the cost of a cell phone has decreased 400% during the past 10 years, does that correspond to a cost decrease of four times? Explain your answer as though you were talking to someone who has never taken algebra. I’m not 100% if I understand the question correctly, but I think it does. Some of the math terminology is confusing me a little, because the text states that â€Å"of† usually means multiplication. We will write a custom essay sample on Mathematics or any similar topic only for you Order Now Anyway, if the cost of a cell phone has decreased 400% during the last 10 years, it does correspond to a cost decrease of four times. Think of it this way, 10 years ago, if the cost of a cell phone was $500 and now the cost is only $100, you can use the following formula to see it visually. 500 –x = 100. (x=400). If we add 500 to both sides of this equation, and then subtract 100 from each side, we are left with 400. What are the four steps for solving an equation? Should any other factors be accounted for when solving an equation? Should any factors be accounted for when explaining how to solve an equation? Explain your answer. Four steps for solving an equation are, 1. Combining like terms; using the distributive property to clear any parentheses on each side of the equation. 2. Isolating the terms that contain the variable; using the addition property of equality to get all of the terms containing the variable to one side of the equation and all of the other terms on the other side of the equation. 3. Isolate the variable you want to solve for; using the multiplication property of equality to isolate the variable by multiplying each side of the equation by the reciprocal of the number in front of the variable(this could also be divide each side). 4. Substitute your answer into the original equation; check the solution by substituting it in the given equation. The order of operations which is PEMDAS and stands for, â€Å"Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, and Addition and Subtraction,† should still be a factor during the process. If you are working with multiple operations, solve them from left to right. How to cite Mathematics, Papers Mathematics Free Essays In regards to how much I feel I improved my knowledge and skills of advanced math during this course, I sadly have to say none whatsoever. I am just as frustrated with math at the end of this course as I was when I started. I did put an honest effort into trying to learn the material as best I could. We will write a custom essay sample on Mathematics or any similar topic only for you Order Now I thought that since I had not taken math since high school nearly ten years ago, I would grasp the concepts easier. Apparently I was wrong. I honestly believe that as lackluster as my performance for this course was, that I could not have done any better. I have never had to use any algebraic concept outside of the classroom, and I believe that this contributes to why these concepts do not stick in my mind and do not make sense. They never have and I’m guessing they probably never will. I know I was not successful in implementing any of the courses. But again, these are concepts that I have never had to use in my everyday life. I have never had to use them in any job I have ever held either. I am never going to be an architect, a nuclear engineer, a computer scientist, or do anything that requires me to do implement anything in these courses. This is mainly because I do not have the intellect to break into these career fields, or any other decent paying job for that matter. Therefor I do not understand why I should be forced to â€Å"learn† concepts that are completely useless to me. Again, I have never once had to use algebra outside of the classroom. Any time I have had to solve some sort of a logic-based issue, I have done so without knowing linear equations, functions, graphs, or sets. I have solved problems on my own or with the help of others without any knowledge of algebra, and I don’t suspect that will change anytime soon. How to cite Mathematics, Essay examples Mathematics Free Essays The most common error committed by students is the sign error.   Consider, for example the following instance.   A seventh grade teacher is to provide instruction in the multiplication of signed numbers. We will write a custom essay sample on Mathematics or any similar topic only for you Order Now The teacher walks through the room, observing progress of each student as they work on a number of sample problems at their seats. The teacher notices that several students consistently make the following error: (-5) x (-6) = -30. One misconception is that the students think that signs do not matter.   In solving these kinds of problems, they tend to disregard the number signs.   This might be because of lack of knowledge of the concept.   The teacher may not have given the importance of number signs.   In this regard, the teacher should give the reason why they should not disregard number signs.   This will help students be more careful in solving numbered signs because they know its importance. Another is that some students tend to believe that since the sum of two negative numbers is a negative then their product might also be a negative number.   Students may overlook the details on the difference between adding and multiplying negative numbers.   The teacher, for this matter, may have not emphasized or given a thorough detail on multiplying a negative number.   This misconception can be diminished if the teacher gives the difference between adding and multiplying negative numbers.   This will help students to keep in mind that the product of two negative numbers is NOT a negative number since they know that multiplying two negative numbers is different from adding two negative numbers. There are many other underlying causes on why students commit this common error.   One major reason is because teachers often overlook the details and skip the important ones.   This error may be reduced if teachers emphasize on the details especially the importance of what they are doing. Fast Retailing Brand Consumer Behaviour

Question: How consumer behaviour affects Uniqlo (a fast retailing brand) to determine their products and brand strategy? Answer: Consumer behaviour affects the products and marketing of a company in a considerable, and thus, it is necessary for companies to conduct research and determine the influence of their consumer behaviour. Companies conduct research through survey or by gathering data from media sources related to consumer behaviour (Szmigin and Piacentini, 2014). Consumer behaviour affects Uniqlos products and its branding strategy in a considerable manner. While a lot of companies, persuade employees to look for creative mediums for enhancing customer service, Uniqlo's management style is to consider the behaviour of its customers and their choices and covert them into tangible products. The company takes into consideration the demands of customers and their current buying behaviour, and consequently comes up with branding strategy that influences the behaviour of consumers in a positive manner. There are a number of thoughts that influence the behaviour of consumers during purchasing. Some consumers are information gatherers, while some are not. Uniqlo offer consumers the information they need in spite of of the type of buyer they are, so that their buying habits can be influenced effectively. The company launches products considering the current market needs and bring necessary modifications to its product. For instance, outside the Japanese market, in the US and Singapore market the company thoroughly considers the behaviour of customers for bringing changes in its product and branding strategy (Safe, 2015). The diverse branding strategy used by the company in different regions proves that consumer behaviour affects Uniqlo. In light of this, it can be stated that consumer behaviour affects Uniqlo to determine their products and brand strategy. References Safe, G. 2015. Freedom of Choice free essay sample

My mom would take my sister and I to the library frequently. What made books so appealing to me was that at the library there was a room full of them and I could pick whichever ones I wanted. This was my first experience with freedom, one of the only parts of my life I could control. When you’re 8 years old, even maybe 10 anywhere you go you’re choices are limited. You’re completely dependent on parents for money if you even get to buy what you want. It was a big deal for me because my mom usually made my decisions for me; my life was planned and I had an empty head. I also liked books as a kid because reading came pretty easy to me. I wasn’t someone who stumbled over words or needed to practice reading extra. Reading gave me confidence, and at the same time it was something I could challenge myself with. We will write a custom essay sample on Freedom of Choice or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I liked to read book series, like the majic treehouse books it was a challenge and an accomplishment to finish each series, to read thicker heavier books. By middle school and high school reading wasn’t exactly a cool thing to do so I gradually stopped reading books, became more social and spent more of my free time with friends instead of sitting in a room by myself with a book. Writing was a different story though, I was always the last one to finish copying notes from the board, I hated writing as a kid because it was so structured. By the time high school came around most of the time writing assignments were bullshit. Teachers just gave long tedious assignments because the harder they made school the smarter it made you obviously. I hated writing pretty much all through high school. By senior year I stopped doing English assignments, because I hated them and I was going through a rough patch in my life. I began to look at life from a much more pessimistic viewpoint, stopped caring about a lot of thing like school and writing in general. After I was old enough to think for myself I was angry about how I was being taught English and writing. I hated listening to other people in classes reading aloud and taking notes about a book while I was reading in it. For me it ruined the story to have to look at it closely and painfully pick it apart piece by piece. You can’t dissect a frog with out killing it first. I don’t know why but for some reason English teachers get some sort of sick pleasure out slaughtering the books they love, or maybe they hated the books and threw them on the chopping block because they were taught English the same way. Junior year of High School I finally got out of accelerated English classes, it was a good move. I breezed through the class and my English teacher used much more modern teaching methods. My favorite part of the class was outside reading. Outside reading was my favorite part of English class as long as I can remember because I like books I just couldn’t enjoy them piece by piece I needed the whole thing, and once again with outsde reading we had freedom to choose what book we wanted to read. If I could use one word to describe my English teacher junior year it would be progressive. There were a lot of other words I could use to describe her, like biased, radical, batty, but if I had to choose just one it would be progressive because she used modern books, unconventional books, classic books, she used the whole spectrum from online media, blogs, email, ipods and sure some of it was still busllshit but it was bullshit I could get on board with. Sure we still slaughtered texts but that class introduced me to my all time favorite book. Walking through the library was an everyday thing, part of moving from one class to another or a safe haven for skipping class, as long as I kept my head down and my pencil moving because who skips class to do work? But that day in the library was different. First it whispered in my direction, then it called quietly, until finally after many double takes and sideways glances it shouted â€Å"Read me! † so I slowly walked over, grabbed it and read. And read. Until the bell rang and I had to leave. But I didn’t stop there like an itch I couldn’t scratch the book haunted me until I was done. From beginning to end I was riveted. This book broke all the rules, the author used words like bastard and shit talked about life, about the mysterys behind it and about walking away from it all on a whim. He wrote about everyday things in the most interesting way, he wrote about sex, about drugs, about nothing at all and about everything at the same time, I’ve never asked more questions about a book in my life and found comfort in never knowing the answers. Its main character stole cars married women, left women, conned innocent people, was well connected, and the whole time survived on nothing more than wits and keenness. The book changed my life, I found it at a very impressionable age and it made an enormous impact on me. It made me realize that there was more to life than what everyone said, it made me understand that I had been thnking backwards my whole life it made me second guess our consumerist society, it made me want to leave it all behind. Without On The Road by Jack Kerouac I would be a very different person today. I always thought that reading and writing was for lonely people. People shut away from the world wether they wanted to be or were there by choice. Ann Frank’s Diary is considered a great novel but if it weren’t for the Nazi’s it wouldn’t have been as interesting. Hemmingway was a drunk that loved cats. Once a basic foundation of English rhetoric has been laid down, most people could become writers if given the chance, it’s a side effect of cabin fever. Writing is the closest you can come to talking to yourself without being considered insane. No matter how you dress it up though, writers are artist at the core their painbrush a pen their canvas the page, and all artist are weird. Too weird to live too rare to die

Creative Process essays

Creative Process essays The creative process is learning not to see with your eyes, but with your heart and soul. Creativity is an original product of the imagination. The imagination is the central force in driving the creative process. The creative process focuses on the mechanisms and phases involved as one partakes in a creative act. A second aspect of creativity is the creative person. Here, personality traits of creative people are central. The creative process includes five steps but is not limiting, leaving room for your own style to shine through. Creativity involves the translation of our unique gifts, talents and vision into an external reality that is new, useful and uniquely ours. Stephen Nachmanovitch, author of Free Play, wrote spontaneous creation comes from our deepest being and is immaculately and originally ourselves...ultimately, the only techniques that can help us are those we invent ourselves (10). We should not feel constrained to stay between the lines; we should feel free to express ourselves in any way we see fit. Originality is derived from being true to ourselves, not anything else. Artist Betty Edwards believes there are five common steps in the creative process. The creative process steps should be used as a guideline to aid the creative individual along the way. Luckily, the trail...is at least marked with pointers to guide the chase...like clues in a treasure hunt, these notations spur the quest (Edwards 2). The stages of the creative process follow a successive order beginning with the first insight and followed by saturation, incubation, illumination and verification. There is not much more to say about the creative process because there are different personality types, and the creative processes of one are not the same as those of another...each of us must find his or her own way into and through these essential mysteries (Nachmanovitch 10). The process is like a dark...

CURRENT ISSUES IN FINANCIAL REPORTING - Essay Example Off-balance-sheet-financing is that debt that is not usually reported on a company’s balance sheet. The formal distinction between off and on-balance sheet items present some complications that are usually subject to some level of judgment by management. However, the primary distinction between the off and on-balance sheet items is based on whether or not a business/company owns or is legally responsible for that debt. Additionally, uncertain liabilities or assets are subject to being grouped as ‘probable’, ‘meaningful’ and ‘measurable’. Some of the examples of the off-balance sheet items include; unconsolidated subsidiaries, operating leases, financial instruments such as hedging contracts and derivatives securities, contingent assets/liabilities among many others (Bauman, 2003). Financial statements need to be adjusted from time to time so that they are able to reflect the economic substance of the information they represent. Companies should, therefore, focus on accounting methods that emphasis on economic substance by considering changes in accounting policies. Economic substance is a transaction that has a purpose besides reducing tax liability. Conversely, Sally and Schreiber states that, â€Å"The economic substance doctrine is a common law judicial doctrine that disallows tax benefits of a transaction if the transaction lacks economic substance or a business purpose.† Therefore, transactions and events should be accounted for in a manner that faithfully represents their true economic substance and not the mere legal form. The off-balance sheet items; thus, provide a reason financial statements often fail to faithfully represent the economic substance. Off-balance sheet activities usually do not represent the true picture of a net worth of a firm. This is because firms do not include market values of their off balance sheet items. Furthermore, the transparency of off balance sheet activities are
